Gender & Identity

Project type

Textile Design, Fashion Design, Sewing

Date

Dec 2016

Location

Singapore

This was one of the first project assigned in college back in 2016 at Lasalle College of the Arts, Singapore. It was a group project with the title "Gender & Identity". We were asked to create a collection with our interpretation of the topic. We decided to take the binary colours typically assigned to male and female genders - blue & pink to create a range of silhouettes showcasing from feminine to masculine. My silhouette was on the masculine end of the spectrum. Our agenda was to blur the idea of binary and to show that clothing can represent a range of gender identities.
I have developed the textiles, silhouette and sewed the garment. Two of the outfits including mine was displayed at The National Gallery of Singapore.
